Tutorial | Sketchbooks Part 1 - An Introduction (Bookings now Closed)

£35.00
Sold Out

This is a 2 hour tutorial on Zoom covering a wide reaching discussion of sketchbooks and their uses and practicalities. I had a negative relationship with Sketchbooks for many years, stuck in a cycle of buying sketchbooks, messing up the first few pages and stuffing the poor, sad, failed sketchbook in a drawer abandoned forever. In recent years I have developed some really useful ideas for more satisfying sketchbooks with the intention of using them for their own sake or as part of a wider artistic practice.

It will include a 60 minute tutorial on the main aspects of using sketchbooks, the key products available, materials and general approaches. This will be information and demonstration based with a huge amount of information squeezed into just one hour!

There will then be a 45 minute guided sketchbook set up session where we will walk through a worksheet on what you imagine your sketchbook to be like and a range of questions to answer for yourself before you begin. You may wish to start your sketchbook in the session, revisit abandoned sketchbooks or just listen, it is entirely up to you! We will not be doing drawing exercises in this tutorial but you are welcome to draw along if you wish.

Finally there will be a Q&A session and you will also be sent a follow up sheet with the details of all of the materials and the other main points discussed so you can relax and listen without taking notes.

I would not recommend buying a sketchbook until you have watched the session but if you have sketchbooks to bring along then please do! This is the first of two tutorials covering the main practicalities and a second tutorial will go into more depth around creating more inspiring and imaginative sketchbooks. I would recommend watching Part 1 first before moving onto Part 2.

Thank you. See you then!
